OWHAT OUR ALUMNI ARE UP TO
ur warmest congratulations to Christopher and Gabrielle Jamieson (pictured above) who were married 1 February
2019 in the Southwell Chapel. Chris (old boy 1997 – 2003) and Gabrielle currently reside in Wellington.
Lots of training and hard work has paid off for Rico D’Anvers (2006- 2014) who has been selected to represent New Zealand in the Union Cycliste Internationale BMX World Champs in Belgium. Rico has been riding since the age of five and is looking forward to racing at elite level. Well done Rico!
Huge congratulations to Teri Macdonald (2006- 2014) who has been selected to represent New Zealand in the Under 18 Women’s Water Polo Team. They will compete in the 2019 Australian Interstate Championships to be held in Sydney, 12-14 July. Teri (pictured right) played water polo while at Southwell and has assisted with coaching our teams.
The team to represent NZ at the
UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships in Germany in August was announced back in March. Incredibly half of the women’s team started their cycling careers at Southwell! Congratulations to Olivia King (2006 - 2013), McKenzie Milne (2012 -2013) and Eva Parkinson (2009-2013).
Well done to Jonte Wright (2012 – 2013) and Briana Perry (2013), who have been selected for the 2019 Rowing New Zealand under 21 Team. Jonte (pictured below) will compete in the Men’s Heavyweight Single Scull and Briana in the Women’s Coxless
Pair. Also to, Samantha Voss (2005 – 2009) who has been selected for the New Zealand Elite Team to compete in the Women’s Double Scull.
Southwell old boy Matthew Chanwai (2011-2018) recently returned from New York after performing at the prestigious Carnegie Hall. He was invited to perform as a solo cellist after gaining a second place at the American Protege Competition. The competition is open to school students and adults of all nationalities and a record number of musicians from 17 countries applied for this year’s competition.
