RUGBY PLAYERS PAST AND PRESENT
QUINN TUPAEA QOLD BOY, 2011-2012
uinn Tupaea is making an impact on the rugby field; coming a long way from playing for Marist as a youngster to his recent selection for the New Zealand under 20’s.
An old boy of Southwell (2011 – 2012) Quinn had two years playing for our First XV. Quinn’s talents are not confined to the rugby field, while at Southwell he was recognised by staff and students for his strong leadership skills and named Head Boy in his Year 8 year. In addition to rugby, Quinn played softball and while here was selected to play for the New Zealand Under 15’s. There was also a fine performance in the 2012 Opera, Annie Get Your Gun!
In 2013 Quinn moved on to Hamilton Boys High School where his sporting success continued, with three years in the First XV and captaining the team in his final year. This natural sportsman also managed to squeeze in rowing
for two years, winning a national title at the New Zealand Maadi Cup in the

Under 16 eight.
The 20 year old has been part of the Chiefs Under 18, 20 and Development teams, New Zealand Barbarians Schools and captained the New Zealand Schools team in 2017. Quinn also plays for Hamilton Old Boys Prems and this year was honoured to be chosen for the Waikato Emerging Talent Sports Award.
Debuting for Waikato in the Mitre 10 Cup in 2018 saw Quinn play all twelve matches, scoring seven tries, including one in Waikato’s Ranfurly Shield win over Taranaki. He is looking forward to the current Mitre 10, 2019 season.
Quinn still has strong connections to Southwell and is often seen at the school assisting with the development of the First XV. The motivational talks he sends through before a big fixture inspire the team to give of their best.
Playing rugby at a high level for as long as possible is a priority for Quinn. He is hoping to get an opportunity to play for the Chiefs in 2020. Quinn’s rugby journey will be followed by his many Southwell supporters.
Quinn, we wish you well for your future sporting endeavours and we will watch you with pride!

ixty-six years after Ralph Faulkner played
in Southwell’s First XV (pictured right) his granddaughter Lilli Parres (pictured below) has made school history by being the first girl to take the field for the team.
Lilli made the transition from football to rugby in Year 6. Playing
as a lock Lilli enjoys the variety the game brings and feels she has earnt the respect of her teammates who along with her coaches and parents have
been supportive and encouraging.
