NEWS FROM AROUND THE SCHOOL
Emerson Wright, 8JB, has been awarded Hamilton City Cycling Club’s Junior Girls’ Cyclist of the Year. Congratulations Emerson!
Equestrian Events
Horse of the Year
Alex Quested and Danni Duncan took part in the gruelling week-long event. In order to qualify riders must earn points at various events throughout the year, so being part of it alone is
a huge achievement. Alex, riding Mr Boombastic, finished eighth overall in the AHD Category B Show Hunter Pony of the Year. Danni, riding Rhythm N Gold, finished third in the ESNZ Category A High Points event.
Inter-School Showjumping
Southwell Showjumping Teams had a super day at Leamington on March 27 at the Inter-School Showjumping.
We had the best results possible, with the Blue team winning first overall, including a trophy, and the White team coming third overall.
The Blue team members were:
Tori Clarke, Sophia Smyth, Ava Readman and Millie Cocurullo.
The students in the White team were: Maia Rhys-Davies, Ella Readman, Sophie Dunn and Danni Duncan.
Year Group Drama Productions
Our Year 5 students treated the School and their parents to their annual production at the end of Term 1 (see image above). Harakeke was a selection of Maori Legends.
In Term 2, it was the turn of the Year
4 students who put on a wonderful production of The Wizard of Oz (pictured at the top of the page.)
Market Day
An entrepreneurial spirit, combined with a desire to help others, was evident at this year’s Year 8 Market Day. Just over $4000 was raised for six different charities, including the Cleft Palate Foundation, Starship Children’s Hospital, Child Cancer Foundation, the Cancer Society, World Vision and the Give a Little appeal for Wyatt Denfield. The quality of the products was outstanding and the thought, creativity and innovation that our students showed was truly remarkable. This year’s Market Day was the first to use real money to purchase the products made, and it was a resounding success! Congratulations to all Year 8 students.
