OLD BOYS’ AND GIRLS’ ASSOCIATION
The two most significant events of
the year have seen us celebrating the opening of the Murray and Ann Day Building and Mr Glenn Holmes being made an Associate of Honour. Both occasions had many old boys and
girls in attendance. It was wonderful
to have so many former Southwell students sharing in such important and significant occasions. On behalf
of OBGA, I wish to warmly congratulate Murray Day (Old Boy 1939 - 1944), Ann Day and Glenn Holmes (Old Boy 1964 - 1967) on these fine achievements.
At our Annual General Meeting, held
in March of this year, we accepted
the resignation of three long-serving OBGA Committee members, Mr Mark de Lisle, Mrs Janet Knighton and Mr Peter Christie. We sincerely thank them for their loyal and dedicated service to the committee and we look forward to enjoying their continued association with the School. Also at the AGM, it was a pleasure to bestow an honorary membership to the Association to Mrs Julie-Anne Richardson. Julie-Anne was a long-serving staff member, and many

old boys and girls fondly remember their time in Mrs Richardson’s classroom.
Updating our database of contacts is
a continual work in progress and is something we are currently focusing on. Please keep us up-to-date with any changes by emailing obga@southwell. school.nz
Once again the annual House Singing competition was a great success with Salisbury House taking the OBGA House Singing Trophy. All Houses performed their own rendition of The Lion Sleeps Tonight, a well-known song with a strong African flavour. Congratulations to all students and staff who took part in this year’s event.
The second half of the year will see us inviting current Year 13 students back to Southwell before they leave secondary school, to share insights and information about the world of high school. We
will be hosting an Old Boys’ and Girls’ Drinks’ Evening at the Speight’s Ale House in Hamilton on Thursday, 26 July at 7pm, and our annual Cricket Day will
be held on Sunday, 28 October. This
is always a well-attended, fun day, with old boys and girls playing against staff, parents and current students. We look forward to catching up with old boys and girls at all these events.
Per aspera ad Astrum.
