THE CHRONICLE
OBGA REPORT
DAVID SHEARER OBGA PRESIDENT
The second half of this year has seen our association hold several functions to encourage our old boys and girls and Southwell supporters to keep connected to our wonderful School.
We have held a social get-together
at the Speights Ale House (thanks
to Aaron Pene, an ex-parent of the School) reconnecting with old boys and girls, discovering what they have been up to since leaving Southwell and the career choices they have taken.
During Term 3 we invited Year 13 old boys and girls back to School to share insights and information with our Year 8 students. We had a massive increase in returning Year 13 students, with over 50 coming back this year. Everyone had a great afternoon, catching up with each other and their past teachers, touring the school and reminiscing. The Opera was another great success. For the Tuesday night performance,
we welcomed old boys, girls and supporters of our school to a wonderful evening.
Recently, we held our annual cricket tournament which saw teams of old boys and girls, teachers, parents and students competing for The Major Gay Trophy. It was another great day for all who played, watched and enjoyed the fun.
Our association has funded the six new House ags in the Performing Arts Centre this year. The database is continually improving, and the social media platforms are well visited and are gaining in numbers each year.
We look forward to the Leavers’ Chapel Service in December, which welcomes the Year 8 Leavers to the Old Boys’ and Girls’ Association. I would like to thank all committee members who gave
their time and valuable input into our meetings and functions throughout the year. We wish the Southwell community a happy and safe Christmas and we look forward to catching up with you all at future events.
