Igain immense satisfaction from witnessing so many Southwell people thriving on a daily basis. Their exuberance for life, positive body language and the vitality they exhibit is contagious. The faces on
this page epitomise to me our young people thriving.
Gaining a strong sense of place and belonging within our community is foundational to enhancing personal self-esteem, relationships, cultivating a sense of purpose and being optimistic. These key outcomes from a Southwell education can set people up for life and through meeting, witnessing and hearing of so many of our old boys’
and girls’ life experiences and exploits in recent times, many attribute their Southwell school days as the catalyst to leading great lives.
Conversationally, old boys’ and girls’ have conveyed to me the following examples of what Southwell installed in them for life;
• The importance of rhythm, routine and balance.
• Respecting situations, traditions and history.
• Enjoying people from all walks of life and their personalities.
• Learning to have fun and celebrating success in its many forms.
• Realising that life can be hard and that you do not always get what you want. This is where resilience is learnt. • How to tie a tie and take pride in your appearance.
• The ability to learn by observing others and listening.
• Learning to learn.
These are but a few of the many gifts of a Southwell education shared with me by our alumni. All gifts in my eyes that can contribute to great lives.
