EQUESTRIAN
Our Southwell Equestrian team have had
a fantastic year in 2018. Many riders have achieved competing in outside of school events in diverse areas like Western Equitation and Cowboy Challenge, Eventing and Horse Trials, National Pony Club team events, Dressage, Show Jumping and Show Hunter.
We have had between eight and 14 riders competing in the inter-schools team events, demonstrating the commitment and enthusiasm that the Southwell children have for their chosen sport.
The Term 1 inter-school Show Jumping event was an absolute success, with the Blue team coming away with the overall winners’ trophy for Waikato schools, and the White team taking away the third place rosettes.
Special congratulations to the winning team of Tori Clarke, Sophia Smyth, Ava Readman and Millie Grace. The third place White team were Maia Rhys-Davies, Ella Readman,
Sophie Dunn and Danni Duncan. Our other two teams had good clear rounds and also had a good day. Thank you to coach Sandra Colby for her support and encouragement.
The winter inter-school Show Hunter event in June was also a huge celebration for Southwell and special thanks to coach Leigh Taylor for preparing the children so well. The overall team placings for Southwell were second, third, fourth and eleventh. It was a wonderful prize giving!
Congratulations to all the riders - Taylor Clarke, Sarah Crowther, Maia Rhys-Davies, Danni Duncan, Alex Quested, Ava Readman, Henry Seavill, Sophie Dunn, Ella Readman, Sophia Smyth, Amelia Southworth, Millie Grace and Tori Clarke.
Special acknowledgement goes to our three highest point scorers, Maia Rhys-Davies, Henry Seavill and Sophie Dunn. Well done teams!
Term 4 introduced the Secondary Schools inter-school Show Jumping and intermediate kids were invited to participate for the rst time.
Southwell was well represented with two teams but unfortunately didn’t bring home
a placing this time. It is tougher competing against older and more experienced children.
Southwell can proudly enjoy being winners in most events in 2018 and look forward to another super year for Equestrian in 2019.
