SNOW SPORTS
This year’s North Island Primary School’s and Intermediate Ski Competition was lled with many highs and a low.
The highs included the largest Southwell entry we have ever had,
the increasing number of rst timers entering, the fast-paced Slalom runs, the hard-fought Duel Slalom wins and our ever-increasing national ranking! But these highlights are only made up from
the of cial competition. These don’t take into consideration the highlights from the unof cial competitions, with the annual Southwell team off-piste skiing competition, the Matamata Ski Lodge poole competition, the biggest jump competition, the sledging competition, and the snowball ght competition. The after-competition competition is what makes our ski teams unique as all ages, young and old, student and parents, combine to play and enjoy everything that the mountain has to offer.
The major disappointment of the season was for only the second time in the history of the event the Senior Ski programme had to be cancelled due to the weather.
