YEAR 0-2 CAMP
We began the year with three Year 1 classes and two Year 2 classes.
Our school-wide Big Idea for the rst term was Well-Being and this was our theme for Camp Week.
Lots of interesting activities were happening inside and outside the classrooms this week, from baking, lots of creative play, swimming, art, pottery and tabloid sports - to name a few.
We began on Monday with a hike around some of Hamilton Lake and then a play on the fabulous playground there. The children showed great resilience and grit to keep going even when they were getting tired. There was hardly a single “Are we there yet?” This was a great start to our week of Well-Being activities as children remembered
the positive effects of exercise and play. Our very grateful thanks to the marvellous team of parent helpers who assisted us on this venture.
On Tuesday we started the day with Tabloid Sport activities, planned and run by Sport Waikato. The key here was trying new activities and not giving up, whilst working in a team. Some great leadership skills shone through, as did the children’s ability to keep going and encouragement of their team members. We nished the day with a baking activity and a very welcome swim!
On Wednesday, we all went by bus to Woodlyn Park in Waitomo. Here we were given a live presentation by Billy Black of his forebears’ methods of cutting into the land on their arrival to the area and the role of some of the farm animals both in that time
and
currently. The children enjoyed seeing a sheep being shorn - for many a rst-time experience!
On Thursday we enjoyed pottery and
art sessions here at school in the Art Department. The children absolutely loved Pottery (and Wilbur the parrot) and the fantastic art skills they learnt - and what ne pieces of art and pottery they produced! Our thanks to Mrs Liz Wathen and Mrs Brya Wing for their expertise and patience with our wee ones.
On Friday we had our Wheels Day. The children loved whizzing round the Oval
on their bikes, scooters and skates. By lunchtime they had become quite weary and were very thankful for an early home time.
Lastly, a very special thanks to our many parents, who are always happy to rearrange their working and family commitments to help us on all of our trips and activities. We couldn’t do it without you!
It was such a fun camp experience, with many tired wee children by the end of the week...we all slept well that weekend I’m sure!
