Southwell School Yearbook 2018
Southwell Symphony Orchestra
This year has been an absolute blast for the Symphony Orchestra and all of its members have thoroughly enjoyed making music together.
Some of the major highlights from this year
have been taking part in the Te Awamutu Band Festival, coming away with a Silver Award, as well as performing at Grandparents’ Day, the annual Performing Arts Concert, Senior Citizens’ Concert and Senior Prize Giving.
This orchestra has really grown together as an ensemble and everyone has enjoyed practices every Wednesday morning.
This year would not have been possible without Mrs McIntyre in Terms 1 and 2, and Mrs Trenwith from Term 2 onwards. Their wisdom and knowledge of music has helped us to develop our musicianship as orchestral players.
A big thank you to Mrs McIntyre and Mrs Trenwith for all their hard work and the fun they bring to the rehearsals!
The Symphony Orchestra is de nitely a worthwhile experience and everyone who plays an instrument should give it a go.
Matthew Chanwai Symphony Orchestra leader
Jazz Band
Being a part of the Jazz Band has been so much fun and a great experience for everyone. In the Jazz Band we play really exciting, often well-known, music that we all enjoy.
This group has given us so many opportunities
to perform, including the Te Awamutu Band & Orchestra Festival, where we came away with a Silver Award. We also performed at Grandparents’ Day, the Senior Citizens’ Concert, the Special Children’s Christmas Party and Senior Prize Giving.
All of these events were really enjoyable and we
had worked super hard for them, practicing every Wednesday lunch and Friday before school. This year Bill Stoneham (Term 1 & 2) and Mrs Trenwith (Terms 2, 3 & 4) made what we achieved possible and were always hard-working, passionate and patient, even if us kids were pushing them to their limits. They have made everything happen and
each rehearsal was wonderful. We all loved coming to practices because of the new knowledge and experience we have gained, the people we have been around and the exciting music we have played.
It is guaranteed to always be a lot of fun. The Jazz Band got along so well and we have achieved so much this year.
The Jazz Band was an amazing thing to do and one of my favorite groups to get involved in.
