SCIENCE
2018 saw the arrival of some fabulous photographic posters courtesy of Vivid Images which seemed to spark a new lease of life into the Science corridor, and with it came a host of awards and successes.
It has always been a tradition for Southwell to enter the ICAS Science competition, not
as a means of comparison, but rather as a means of enabling those of us who teach the subject to re-evaluate what we do and how we do it, in order to improve student learning.
This year 139 students sat ICAS Science, of which 44 gained participating certi cates, 16 gained merits, 54 achieved a credit, 20 gained distinctions (Brendon Tsoi, Blake Freyberg, Daniel Dizon, Eddie Bi, Jasper Goldsmith, Lucas Zhang, Oliver Norman, Adi Manda, Lydia Kong, Caroline Glander, Leon Wu, Leon Lee, Sam Edwards, Daniel Zhao, Yvette Scatchard, Meera Patel, Bob Su, Katie Li, Isabella Egan, Amirdha Kanchi) while Alex Liu, Avi Patel, Nish Wood, Li Hang Cao and Fraser Clegg all gained high distinctions.
At the Waikato NIWA Science Fair, out of the nine projects that were entered, seven were judged to be prize winners.
