HOCKEY
Again Southwell was able to enter six teams into the Waikato Hockey Intermediate Competition for the 2018 season. Although playing late on a Friday night when it is
cold and raining could be off-putting, it
did not deter our hockey players at all.
They demonstrated resilience and put in maximum effort throughout the season, and above all else, enjoyed participating.
Highlights of the season for the school included the Southwell White team making the nal of their grade under coach Paula Currie, and the 2nd XI, coached by Mr. Rees- Gibbs, making the nal in their division.
Another highlight would include the xtures that a number of teams were involved in. For the Hockey 1st X1, the overnight xture will provide fond memories; these include being billeted and playing a highly competitive game of hockey against Huntley that ended in a draw. Another highlight for the 1st
X1 was playing King’s School. This was a game played at a high level of intensity, and although the team lost, they truly showed they could play outstanding hockey.
Thank you Southwell parents for everything you did for the teams this year. You were positive and always highlighted the fun aspect of the game. The cheering was welcomed and many parents took the time to come to home and away xtures.
Congratulations to these students who represented Waikato this year:
Waikato Collier (U13 Girls):
Harriet Cooper, Isobel McNally, Alex Timmo, Rachael Ronowicz
King Country:
Sophia Symth (girls), Edward Buckley (boys)
