TENNIS
The school tennis season always has a large number of students wanting to learn this popular game. 2018 was no different with a record number of players from Year 5 right through to Year 8. Our training sessions were split over the teams and courts to allow all players the opportunity to play games on full size courts.
This worked well and there have been improvements in players’ tennis strokes and their knowledge of the game. We introduced a Southwell Club Day on Thursday afternoons where the top 20 players in the school donned their blue and white striped shirts and focused on playing ladder matches and championship games. This brought a new element of competitiveness, and there have been some amazing games of tennis played in this time slot.
Many of our players have taken up the opportunity to gain extra coaching with outside coaches here at school, as well as playing in club tennis games on Saturdays. This has lifted the standard of tennis at Southwell which has been most bene cial when playing our inter-school xtures.
These xtures are a highlight of our calendar and we enjoy the opportunity of playing against some amazing players from other schools. We always learn a great deal
and enjoy the atmosphere within this type of competition. A big thank you to the supporters who are able to come and watch us play in these xtures, your presence is always appreciated.
