CYCLING
It has been another action-packed year for our Southwell Cycling team. We’ve had many new riders join us this year and it’s amazing to see the growth they have achieved this season, assisted by the more experienced riders.
We entered teams and individuals into various competitions throughout the year, braving some terrible weather and tough competition.
During the Waikato B.O.P Road Cycling Competition in May Thomas Purdie placed 1st in Year 6 Boys, Ryan Hansen placed 2nd in Year 8 Boys and Emerson Wright placed 3rd in Year 8 Girls. We also entered the North Island and National Competitions providing great race experience for our riders.
We had several cyclists ride track at the Velodrome in Cambridge, entering in competitions such as Battle of the Schools and the North Island Track Championships.
We continued our Thursday racing with Hamilton City Cycling Club. Our weekly races in the Under 15 category provided us with valuable racing and teamwork practice. Emerson Wright placed U15 Girls ITT Champion for the 2018 Summer Series. In September Ryan Hansen competed in the Waikato B.O.P Individual Time Trial and won gold for Under 13 Boys.
On behalf of the Southwell Cycling Team, we would like to say thank you for all the support, time and effort from the parents and helpers. And an extra big thank you for the huge effort in sausage sizzle fundraising for our teams.
Without you playing taxi, xing our bikes, riding with us and getting us hot
chocolates on cold competition mornings this all wouldn’t be possible.
We look forward to another exciting year of cycling in 2019.
