WATERPOLO
Water Polo for 2018 was a year of learning for all as we have had new coaches and a lot of new players. Term 1 consisted of lots of training in the school pool and tness sessions to help us cope with the demands of a fast-paced game. With Waterworld being closed we had our games at Hamilton Boys’ High every Sunday night. We played in a development squad against other teams that were also at a beginning level.
Moving through to Term 4 we were able to use the dive pool at Waterworld, which added another dimension to training and games and proved to be a good challenge for the teams. Two teams entered - Fins who are in the top division and Makos who are in division 2.
Both teams showed improvement and proved to be excellent players, with strong communication and grit. It has been an absolute pleasure working with a group of students that are enthusiastic and dedicated to learning and being a part of a great sport.
A highlight of the season was Lochie Mouat and Ella Readman being selected as part of the Waikato Rep and Development Squads.

The two Southwell Water Polo teams have had a very fun year. We have learned and grown together as one big family. The progression throughout the year is amazing! We started off the year with some new players who had never played a game in their life, who are now feeling con dent playing a full game with determination and advanced skills. I would like to say a huge thank you to Miss Rudduck, Miss Southall and Teri MacDonald. Each coach has brought different skills and techniques, which has been a massive help in our games. They have boosted our con dence enormously. I hope to see all the Year 5, 6 and 7s still playing next year and all their following years at Southwell and beyond. Being captain for 2018 has taught me so much and I am very grateful for the opportunity.
