Our academic day uniform looks magnificent when worn correctly. It must be clean, tidy and in good condition.
We are a ‘Socks Up, Shirts In’ School on all hard surfaces. For boys and girls, when on hard surfaces, the expectation is to have your shirt tucked in well.
Ties – Our expectation is that these are always tied well and that they are worn correctly, covering the top button (we help our students all the time with this)
Shoes – It is appreciated if your son/daughter cleans or polishes their shoes at least once a week.
Blazers – Worn to and from School daily. All blazer buttons are done up prior to walking to Chapel or to Assembly, to start each day at Southwell.
No jewellery is to be worn except for a watch and a plain pair of studs/sleepers for girls. No makeup or nail varnish is to be worn.
Number One uniform must be worn when required; Photos, Founders Day, Prize Giving, opera/music evenings, weekend, evening and Christmas chapel services, students involved in sporting fixtures with other schools, attending interviews/exams at other schools and speech and drama exams. Their uniform is to be worn with pride both on and off site. It must be clean, tidy and in good condition.
Only designated shoes (McKinlay Delta) are permitted (unless you have a medical exemption). Sandals (McKinlay Safari) are to be worn correctly, with the heel straps done up.
Boys Please ensure your son is wearing garters to keep his socks up. We would like boys’ hair to be neat and tidy. No numbers 1 or 2 haircuts, no undercuts and no shaved hair lines. Hair must not be longer than the top of the shirt collar. We would like all students to have their natural hair colour – no dyes or hair products. We do not wish for any undue attention to be drawn to a haircut that comes with extreme hairstyles.
Wide brim hats are compulsory during Term 1 and Term 4. No hat, no play. Caps are available but these are only to be worn for the following sports; Tennis, Softball and Touch Rugby. Beanies are for winter months and are only to be worn to and from sport.
