SOUTHWELL SCHOOL
FROM THE ARCHIVES THE ROSE BOWL
raditionally, each year on Founder’s Day, the silver Shaw Rose Bowl is lled with a stunning display of beautiful roses. The arrangement is then
placed in the Dining Room, on the mantelpiece, under the photos of the past Southwell Headmasters. Used only on Founder’s Day, the Rose Bowl usually sits in the Hawkins Room.
The Rose Bowl, won by William Pullar for Athletics in 1937, was donated
to the School in 1987. Mr Pullar had three grandsons go through Southwell: Richard (1974-77), Colin (1978-79) and Michael (1982-85) Jacobsen.
Another generation of the family has come through Southwell in recent years. Three of William Pullar’s great- grandchildren have also attended the school: Connor (2008-15), William (2010-18) and Hannah (2010-18) Jacobsen. 2018 marks the end of an era for the Jacobsen family, with the twins moving on to secondary school.
