his year the SSA has been focussing on encouraging as many parents as possible to become involved in Southwell life, and to enjoy the opportunity
to form friendships while contributing to the school. We have hosted many coffee mornings/afternoons for parents, and these have been a great opportunity for making connections. We encourage, and welcome, all parents and caregivers to come to the SSA meetings which are held twice
a term, on a Tuesday evening in the Dining Room. The meetings are a great way to get to know other parents and to nd opportunities to join in school activities.
Two of the main events organised by the SSA this year were the disco for the students and the trivia night for the parents. Both are annual highlights and much anticipated.
The disco was held in Term 2 and embraced with gusto by the children. The theme this year was The Circus which the kids particularly enjoyed. The many and varied out ts were very impressive.
It was lovely to see the smiles on the children’s faces, and the enthusiastic dancing to the music provided by DJ, Elliot Tiffany.
A huge thank you to Karyn de Leeuw and Sarah Finlay who once again led the disco committee, and to all the many parent and teacher helpers on the day.
At the end of August, the SSA staged another successful Trivia Night. Over 120 parents, teachers and friends attended a fun, French-themed evening which was superbly hosted by Michael Nahu. The school hall was beautifully decorated and the props included
the Eiffel Tower, a guillotine and a parade of teachers’ heads which the Year 7 and 8 classes had decorated magni cently. Each table had to guess which head was which teacher. Some of the heads were incredibly lifelike. At the end of the night, Mr Speedy was seen leaving the hall with Mrs Milroy’s head. Make of that what you will. The Year 8 students delivered one round of questions in French. Their authentic accents are a credit to Madame Shirley’s French lessons. Aside from

the quiz, there was a selection of generously donated raf e prizes and
a silent auction. Prizes were also awarded to the winning team, the
best dressed team, and of course, the worst performing team. Many thanks to Daniel Cross who led the Trivia committee and to all of the parents, teachers and friends of the school who contributed so generously, in particular to Duncan & Ebbett for supplying three lovely Peugeots, one in each colour of the French ag!
