CHAPLAIN’S REPORT INTRODUCING BLYTHE CODY
My name is Blythe Cody and this year I am
the Chaplain Intern with the Anglican Schools of Aotearoa New Zealand and
Polynesia.
I am very excited to be given this opportunity to spend the year exploring what it is like to work as a school chaplain. During this year I have the chance to work with two different Anglican schools; I have been working with Chaplain Neale Troon here at Southwell for the first half of this year and for the second half of the year I will be at a secondary school that is still to be decided.
I live in Cambridge with my husband Lewis and my four children; Maura, Elijah, Noah and Petra, and I sometimes feel like the only foreigner in a house full of Kiwis! I was born in the USA and still retain my accent and many of my American idiosyncrasies (I can’t seem to train myself to stop using
my right hand for my fork when I eat!
I also talk to every stranger like I have known them for years—the checkout operators at the supermarket probably sigh with relief when I walk away; also, baseball is more fun to watch than cricket! Go Cubbies!) I met my husband while we were working as missionaries in the Philippines, before I left my
mom told me not to fall in love with an Australian and move to the other side of the world. So I didn’t.
Before being offered the chaplaincy internship I worked as chef and manager at a café in Cambridge. I love cooking and especially baking. If I get some down time you will usually find me happily creating new recipes in my kitchen. My other happy place is on a run, preferably on a trail through the woods. I am passionate about helping young people learn more about God and where they fit into this amazing, beautiful and sometimes crazy world.
