Our warmest congratulations to Harrietanne Embling (2000 - 2007) who married current Southwell teacher Liam Norman on 3 October 2020 in the All Hallows Chapel.
I leave you with this Pentecost blessing:
May the Spirit, who hovered over the waters when the world was created, Breathe into you the life He gives.
May the Spirit, who overshadowed the Virgin when the eternal Son came among us, make you joyful in the service
reetings, Southwell whānau!
My name is Matt Pickering, recently appointed as Assistant Chaplain and Specialist Teacher. Born and
raised in New Plymouth, I played cricket and golf for the New Plymouth Boys’ High top teams, before moving south to spend ten years in windy Wellington for university and work as a Hansard editor and bookseller.
A move to Auckland (and putting winter coats in storage) saw my wife Leah and I begin a new journey in Christian ministry. I studied theology at the Anglican St John’s College and did my teacher training via distance through Bethlehem Tertiary Institute in Tauranga. Now with our 2-year-old son Lachie in tow, we are absolutely delighted to settle here in Kirikiriroa, Hamilton, an unexpected destination, but a wonderful spot for families.
of the Lord.
May the Spirit, who set the Church on fire upon the Day of Pentecost, bring the world alive with the love of the risen Christ. Amen.
This year I have been doing a school chaplaincy internship through the Anglican Schools Board. Terms 1 and 2 had
me placed at St Peter’s Cambridge, with Term 3 at St Paul’s Collegiate. I thoroughly enjoyed what those incredible schools have to offer, and working with the chaplains
there. Coming to Southwell in Term 4 has been like going upstream in terms of seeing how this school forms students before sending them off to high school.
I am grateful to God for this new opportunity to work here at Southwell, learning everything I can from Chaplain Troon. Come talk to me about cricket, music, running, or whatever you’re into!
