                   OUR NEWEST ASSOCIATE OF HONOUR
 OHONOURING JOHN OLIVER

The Associate of Honour is the highest award that South- well can bestow on an individual. The award recognises inspiring role models for our students and is awarded to an old boy or girl or member of the community who is strong- ly connected to Southwell and who exemplifies the School values of excellence, integrity, creativity, caring, respect and resilience. It has been awarded just five times in the past to; Mr Brian Perry, Mr Andrew Patterson, Mr Brian Sharman, Mr Murray Day and Mr Glenn Holmes.
Southwell’s first student, his father Ian and uncle Brian attended a few years later, followed by son Duncan and
17 grandchildren along with extended family including the Saxtons, Baileys, Kays and Chisholms - who have all had a strong presence at the School - on last count at least 42 family members had attended the School with the majority of them boarding! The Oliver family’s loyalty and commit- ment to Southwell stems back five generations to John’s grandmother Violet Constance Rutherfurd Oliver who, during the 1920’s was able to financially support the school during difficult times.
