BOARDING AT SOUTHWELL
A BRIEF HISTORY
Since 1911, the Boarding house has sat at the heart of the school and served many students as a home away from home. In 1921 a cousin of Headmaster HG Sergel left
a large sum of money towards the construction of an open air dormitory, later overlooking the pool.
This original building was refurbished in 1996 for use as a Junior School in its original poolside location and after many years as a library, staffroom and a boarders rec room, was relocated to Jacks Paddock in 1998, where it remains in use to this day. We value our history and hold strong to the idea that nothing goes to waste.
HEADMASTERS MESSAGE
Boarding is in Southwell’s DNA. Boarding allows families from other regions to gain a Southwell education and for local families to gain from the immense benefits of boarding. Boarding is an
education in itself, where the skills of developing relationships and learning to be tolerant, patient, accepting, collaborative and developing independence is constant. Boarding leaves a significant impression on the mind and manner during these incredibly shaping years that lasts a lifetime.
OUR NEW BOARDING HOUSE
In 2022, we are delighted to present our new Boarding House (pictured above), incorporating this treasured original dormitory building and connecting generations. A significant development designed with the wellbeing and comfort of our boarding children in mind.
All Southwell buildings and large scale projects have been built on the kindness and generosity of our past and present gifting community. We invite you to tailor your own gift to the School and donate now to this historic development.
