PPETER JACKSON
eter’s journey through Southwell School began just before he turned 10 in 1955 and ended in 1997 when his youngest son left the school. A boarder,
Peter took every opportunity available and landed positions in the 1st XI for both Cricket and Hockey and also the 1st XV for Rugby. As Head Boy in his final year, Peter left with his name on the Spencer Rutherfurd Memorial Cup for General Excellence joining an exclusive club which continues to gather members to this day.
After attending secondary school at Kings College in Auckland, Peter studied Agriculture at Massey University and later travelled abroad gaining experience leading him to become AFFCO’s youngest Board Chairman from 1990-2000; all while based on the Family Farm at Te Akau, where he and wife Prue raised four sons Samuel, Tom, William and James.
During these years, Peter was a senior member of the Southwell Trust Board and was Instrumental in the set up of the Foundation Board and through his years of service was made a Fellow of Southwell School in 2006.
The Jackson Family Cup was donated by Peter and sons
in 1998 celebrating a long association with the school. Awarded to a student in any year group showing diligence in all areas of school life.
Our sincerest condolences to Prue and their family
and immense gratitude to Peter for his many years of service to our school. We look forward to welcoming his grandchildren to the school in the next couple of years.

2022 SOUTHWELL SCHOOL OPERA
This year, Southwell School is privileged to present the NZ premiere of the Broadway musical “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”. Based on the well loved novel by Roald Dahl, this version provides us with a contemporary take on the story and allows students the scope to develop a range of colourful characters who reflect what’s happening in 2022.
The music is memorable and consists of a few well known tunes from the original movie plus some additional
songs which have been specially composed by the talented team of Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, who incidentally brought “Hairspray” to the stage. We are now fully cast and can’t wait to get started next term in our attempt to bring you the best chocolate experience ever!!
