PRIZE GIVING ADDRESS - HEAD GIRL
  Head Girl - Maddy Waddell
It’s hard to believe that my nine years at Southwell have already passed. From the moment I rst walked through the gates as a Year 0, Southwell has had a huge impact on my life. Not only has it taught me academically, it has also helped me grow as a person. Whether you’re in the classroom or out on the eld, every moment’s been a learning experience.
My sister started Southwell three weeks before I was born so I have literally lived my whole life here and it has become like my second home. My parents chose to send me here because of the standards and values it upholds - little did they know all the other things I would get out of the school.
One of the many highlights for me during my time here has been Performing Arts. Southwell encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and try new things, including Opera, which is a hectic time of year. I started my acting journey as a fork in my rst opera, nishing up as racist bigot this year. I’m not sure whether I can count that as success...? But seriously though, thank you Mrs Walker for dedicating all your time and effort into these shows, and always believing in us, for your passion, your commitment and your ability to pull off such outstanding shows year after year. We all greatly appreciate it.
Sport has always been a big part of my life and team sports at Southwell have always been a highlight for me. You develop as a group and create bonds that carry on throughout school. For me, going away on xtures has always been a real highpoint. Having a chance to play against schools based far away from us is a fun experience. Regardless of your ability, team culture is all about effort and doing the best you can.
One of the things that makes Southwell culture so unique is our strong traditions. It’s what makes Southwell Southwell. From major events like Founder's Day to even simple things such as walking with our hands behind our back to Chapel - all these things have been carried on for generations.

Traditions such as Athletics Day are well-loved events. Even if you are not particularly sporty there is something for everyone. From chants and colours, to relays and Tug-o-War, Athletics Day is all about house spirit and having fun.
All Hallows is the centre of our school. It is the place where we all come together most mornings to reect. We learn what it means to be our best self, and every week we focus on something different, It promotes really important values that I know I will take on into my life. Made with bricks from our own students, the Chapel is very much a part of us.
You may not realise until you leave just how much you miss Southwell, but I guarantee there is going to be a day in the future when you look back and wish you had just one more day at this school, so make the most of it all - the friendships, the teachers, the opportunities, the lunchtimes. Make the most of the school and you will be able to look back with no regrets.
The reason we have so many opportunities is because of the incredible people that ll the school. Throughout our whole Southwell community, each person has had a part to play in making this school the amazing place it is.
from my parents, but I am so glad they chose Southwell because these have been the best years of my life. It’s going to be hard for all of us moving on from something that we have grown to love so much in our life.
Southwell offers us all the opportunities in the world, and teaches us to strive to be the best we can be. Because, as we all know, if you shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you’ll land amongst the stars.

Thank you to my teachers, for giving me their time, expertise, pushing me out of my comfort zone and helping me to believe in what is possible if you work hard and follow your dreams.
To the ground staff, Chaplain, ofce staff, chefs, nurse and all the other teachers. I don’t know what I would have done without your care and support. Without each and every one of you Southwell wouldn’t be the same.
To Mr Speedy, thank you for a great year. You invest so much into the school and your dedication and passion are not taken for granted.
Finally to my peers. Thank you, for the fun times. You get to know each other pretty well over the years and the friendships that you form last forever. I have spent my whole childhood alongside some of you and I don’t know how I am going to say goodbye.
Sending me to Southwell for all these years has obviously been a great commitment
