Headmaster, staff, Invited guests, parents and caregivers, students.
Once again I am delighted to be able to address you, albeit a little differently to normal.
You will be pleased to know that this will be a short speech, befitting the different circumstances of Southwell’s 2021 Prize Givings.
To your teachers, thank you. Again in 2021 you have delivered informative, relevant interesting learning both from the classroom and from your kitchen tables, dining rooms and spare bedrooms. Thank you.
To Mr Speedy, Mr Mills, Mrs Bindon, Mr Walch and Mrs Walters - thank you for your ongoing leadership and commitment to the best experience the school can deliver.
As you drive past Southwell after your summer holidays I expect you will see that the area in front of the library, on the Peachgrove Road side, has been turned into a construction zone. This is the site of the new Junior Block and marks the beginning of a period in which we will see the new junior block, boarding precinct and sports pavilion built in quick succession. I am sorry that you won’t be enjoying these great new facilities but maybe little brothers and sisters or friends will.
Finally I would like to thank my fellow Trust Board members, the Southwell Fellows, the Southwell School Foundation, Old Boys' and Old Girls' Association, the Southwell School Association and all those parents and caregivers who support the school whether it be sports coaching, sports team management, camp help, costume help, library help or one of the other ways the Southwell community supports the school. Thank you.
On behalf of the Trust Board, have a great Christmas and summer holiday, make sure you rest and recreate, ready for 2022 wherever you may be and whatever it may bring.

To you Year 8s, well done and congratulations. Whether you are winning a prize or not I congratulate you. You have all had your own successes and your own wins. You should feel proud of 2021’s achievements. Well done. You can move on to secondary school happy in the knowledge that this place has given you the best preparation possible for success in Year 9 and beyond. I hope that you are grateful to your parents and caregivers who made it possible.
