CRICKET
2021 has been a great year for Cricket at Southwell. We have grown our numbers, played in fixtures and been able to continue with playing in Term 4. Some hurdles came up with the NZCA Primary School Cup and Shield postponement and cancellation, along with no fixtures in Term 4. We have also been very fortunate to get help from the I’Anson family, along with many other parents managing teams and helping out with scoring and umpiring.
From Ms Ross, Mrs Milroy and Mr Williams: The girls have been a pleasure to work with and have had a lot of fun along the way. Their development has been outstanding to see and all of the girls thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the Yeah Girls programme on a weekly basis, developing their game knowledge and skill set with Naomi Matthews from Northern Districts Cricket.
For the boys, the Tuesday development sessions working with different coaches brought enjoyment and gave the opportunity for players from different ability levels to learn from and help each other as well. Our team training sessions across the year levels were led with passion and saw team
members work together on improving their gameplay.
Fixtures were thoroughly enjoyed and this season we were able to play against King's Prep, Saint Kentigern College and Hereworth. Overall there have been lots of players achieving milestones like scoring 50 or more runs and we have had a rise in three and five wicket bags and even a hat-trick or two. Baggies were awarded to Keaton Danby and Charlie Galpin.
Good luck to the players going to high school and to the players returning I look forward to seeing you back next year.
