TOUCH CROSS SPORT
Our Cross Sport athletes in Terms 1 and 4 performed with great attitudes and athleticism across a variety of tness, small and large ball drills and skills and games each week on our beloved Jack’s Paddock.
Constant movement, challenge and enjoyment in each session, with friendly competition, was delivered to cater for individual and team moments. Sports covered involved athletics, volleyball, non- stop cricket, lacrosse and handball.
The focus of Cross Sport for the younger students has been on inclusive exercise where everyone can have fun, move and enjoy their contribution to the game. Students have played a selection of sports from non-stop cricket played with a variety of bats like pool noodles and hockey sticks
to touch rugby played with a tennis ball, Just Dance and more traditional golf and manhunt.
The aim of the sessions is to keep students moving, developing both gross and ne motor skills. Perhaps, most importantly, each session had one or two opportunities for re ection where it was possible to talk about tactics and strategies to improve the game.
Mr Speedy, Mrs Gillgren, Mrs Nicholson, Mr Cameron, Mr Bryan, Miss Southall and Ms Lloyd-Voss have been impressed by the positive energy all students have brought to the ses- sions and have thoroughly enjoyed witnessing their tness and skills develop.

TOUCH
Ten terri c touch teams represented Southwell in Term 1. The Year 7/8 teams played a fast and furious style, with the Stars and Suns unlucky not to make the nals, but gaining lots of experience ready for Term 4 competition. The Year 5/6 teams were impressive with lots of talent and teamwork getting them across the line. The Year
3/4 teams scorched the grass with their blistering pace. With a bit more structure they would be dangerous in Term 4! The Year 1/2 team tried to get their heads around the weird and wonderful rules of touch whilst having lots of fun in the process - which they did!
Term 4 saw the three Year 7/8 teams join the Year 1-6 teams at Swarbrick Park on
Thursdays. The junior teams appreciated having their ‘big fans’ cheering from the sideline. The Year 7/8 mixed teams took a leap of faith and entered the boys’ grade. Games were a bit faster and more physical, but all the hard work at training paid off, with the Southwell Stars winning the competition. The Year 5/6 teams narrowly missed semi- nals. The Year 3/4 teams developed some grit amongst tough competition and the Year 1/2 teams nally nailed the rules ready to run riot next season!
The Southwell Stars and Southwell Suns were involved in two xtures in Term 4 - a tough loss to Dilworth (Auckland) and a bruising battle with King’s Prep (Auckland), also resulting in a loss. Supporters and staff
were very proud of their efforts, with these games sharpening up skills for Thursday games.
