to take a moment to acknowledge the very important role Southwell has played in helping our School families cope through a very challenging time.
Our School families have all felt the impact of Covid in different ways. Some have experienced business or financial uncertainty; some have had family overseas where the health impacts of the virus have been devastating; and for some Covid has come on top of other ongoing health or family challenges. For children, Covid has had the potential to be particularly scary and disruptive. Throughout all of this, Southwell has been a very stable and calm influence for our Southwell families.
On behalf of SSA members, families, parents and staff we thank Mr Speedy and his Senior Team for their very clear communication and professional leadership through a very difficult year. The stable, safe and caring environment at Southwell; the normality of uninterrupted routines; the quick adoption of remote learning all played a vital role in relieving the pressure which Covid placed on our families.
and exciting ways to support our Southwell community, one of these being our Southwell Business Directory.
In Terms 3 and 4, the School community again went into overdrive to produce Hairspray, another magnificent Southwell Opera. We appreciate the enormous effort which goes into the opera by teachers, parents and of course our very talented students. There are countless people involved in all aspects of the production and the SSA plays the small but rewarding role of making sure everyone gets a cuppa, or an ice cream, at intermission.
Once again the School disco, with this year’s theme of Glow in the Dark, was a fabulous hit with the students. This is always a very popular event, with a great turn out, and this year was no exception with the Performing Art Centre decorated beyond recognition by our wonderful SSA volunteers – thank you all, it was awesome to see such a great turnout of volunteers. The SSA look forward to helping Southwell celebrate 110 years in existence and 100 years here at Peachgrove Road in 2021.
