RICHARD VAN DEN ENGEL - CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
 ISOUTHWELL SCHOOL FOUNDATION
t gives me great pleasure to share with you the final The Foundation Window will be funded by the Foundation design for the proposed chapel window to be installed as a reminder of the generosity of the Southwell
at All Hallows Chapel. Thank you to all who have Community. Donors who choose to specifically donate to
worked hard along the way to shape the design which incorporates Chaplain Neale Troon’s vision (adjacent), including our very own art teacher Brya Wing and renowned stained glass window artist Suzanne Hanly from Auckland Glassworks.
All Hallows Chapel represents, for many, the heart of Southwell School both physically and spiritually – a place of learning, a place of reflection and a place of community. It is the place our students begin their journey at Southwell with their first chapel service, and end their journey with their Year 8 leavers’ ceremony. Of course, for many it doesn’t end there, All Hallows welcomes back Old Boys and Old Girls for baptisms, weddings, funerals and other services. All Hallows holds a very special place in our hearts as it is also the place where Ilda and I were married almost nineteen years ago.
The Southwell School Foundation was established to preserve the special character of the School. We are privileged to enjoy the amazing place that Southwell is today because of the generosity of generations who have gone before, starting with the donation of the school grounds by the Sergel family. It has been built upon by many others who have donated their time, talents and finances to make Southwell what it is today.
the Chapel Window Appeal will be recognised either in a plaque inside the chapel (for donations that exceed $5,000) or in our memorial book. We have made steady progress towards our $100,000 window costs and thank our people who have contributed so far, your generosity is hugely appreciated, with one last push I am sure we will reach
our goal (please note that any surplus will be added to the endowment fund). It is not too late to be a part of this moment in Southwell history.
Donations can be made online at www.southwellfoundation.co.nz, and of course are eligible for a tax rebate.
The story and the beauty of the Foundation window will be gazed upon and appreciated by thousands over the years to come, both
from within the Chapel
and from the Oval outside. Together with your support, we look forward to making this dream a reality.

      SUZANNE HANLY - GLASSWORKS AUCKLAND
The Foundation are excited to have commissioned renowned glass artist Suzanne Hanly from Glassworks in Auckland to design and fabricate this window. Suzanne has spent time at the School discussing our vision and ideas and we are confident she will produce a piece of art that will be admired and enjoyed for generations to come.
With partner Ben Hanly, Suzanne founded Glassworks in 1980 and together they create unique stained glass work, sourcing exceptionally high-quality glass from Europe - St Just in France and Lamberts in Germany. Their work includes a seven-year commission for The Holy Trinity Cathedral in Parnell, Auckland and collaborations with an array of prominent local artists including Shane Cotton and Robert Ellis.
