 AOLD BOYS’ & GIRLS’ ASSOCIATION REPORT
s we find ourselves racing towards the end of community past and present. However, this makes space another busy Southwell year, it is a good time to for the 2022 opera to be something even more special.
pause and reflect on the events of the past 18 months and positively focus on the year to come. What a year full of surprises 2021 has been!
OBGA finds itself in great shape, with an enthusiastic and hardworking committee looking forward to kicking back into a year of events and reconnecting with
our wider community in 2022. Obviously the second half of this year has seen many of our scheduled events cancelled or postponed, including the Year
13 class of 2016 visit to talk to our current Year 8 group. We wish this group of Old Boys and Girls all
the very best as they step into the world of tertiary education or working life and adventures and salute your adaptability in navigating this big step in such a changing landscape.
Next year is shaping up to be quite action packed with the tentative return of the OBGA Cricket Bash, Golf Classic and varying social gatherings.
For the first time, we have seen the cancellation of the Opera, this year our 100th celebration opera Oliver! With this comes the missed opportunity to host a special OBGA performance and celebrate our musical
We have had many sporting achievements of our Old Boys and Girls to acknowledge and celebrate across multiple sporting codes at world class events such as the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and teams including the All Blacks and Black Caps. Similarly our OBGA community extends well into the performing arts
and academic arenas. We do like to celebrate these moments on both our Facebook and Instagram pages so please do follow, tag and share as often as you can.
Our 2022 AGM will be held on Thursday 12 May at 6pm in the Homestead. Please join us as we outline our vision for the year ahead, followed by drinks and our honorary old boys and girls presentation.
To the Year 8 class of 2021, although the usual end of year celebrations has taken a different form this year, nonetheless we honour you all as your time with us on a daily basis comes to an end and you embark on your secondary schooling. Step out boldly with our very best wishes and don’t forget to stop in every now and then.
