                ALUMNI ON THE WATER
It’s always a Southwell Alumni reunion of sorts when the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championship Regatta AKA Maadi Cup, is hosted at Lake Karapiro every second year. Amongst the many Alumni competing for varying schools. The Waikato Diocesan U18 Novice 8+ was absolutely brimming with Southwell Alumni: Olivia Carruthers (2020-21) Lucy Hadley (2019-21) Tor Melville (2020-21) Matta Daniel, Addy McLeod (2019-21) Sophia Mason, Alexandra Hull (2020-21) Sophie Curry (2019-21) and coxwain Kiri Ormsby (2016-21). Congratulations on a very successful regatta ladies and we look forward to tracking your results in the years to come.
Congratulations to Will Milne (2016-18) for his selection to the New Zealand Junior Mens 8+ to compete in Paris at the Junior World Rowing Championships in August. The current HBHS Rowing Captain seen here holding the Winners Shield at North Island Champs, was part of a historic photo finishing Maadi Cup race and performed extremely well at NZ Trials in the following weeks. This lad is definitely one to watch and we wish you all the very best for an exciting and successful campaign.
ANDRE ALIPATE (1994-95)
Andre, wife Anna and their children visited Southwell late last year whilst enrolling daughter Grace and noticed an Athletics Cup he had been awarded whilst himself a student. Back in the day, students were allowed
to take Cups they had won home for the weekend to show Family members. Andre was no different and being a boarder, bundled the Cup up safely and embarked
on his voyage home... to Papua New Guinea. An interesting story to keep in mind for the next time this Cup is awarded at Athletics Day... some of our beloved silverware is extremely well traveled! Check Andre out as co host of The Hunters Club TV @trainhuntthrive
