 YBACK IN BUSINESS
et again another year has whizzed by at Southwell School and to me 2023 will go down as the “back to business as usual” year, with the disruption and
uncertainty of the pandemic now a distant memory. It has been great to see the school back to full stride as the best place in the country for young people to grow and learn in all aspects of life.
We have once again seen the significant achievements of many Southwell Alumni across a number of sporting and cultural pursuits. It has been a real thrill to be able to share their success stories via the Southwell School Alumni social media platforms. I want to thank the team behind the scenes for all of their hard work on the Alumni database project and our awesome social media presence. This is proving to be an effective form of communicating for Alumni.
The opening of the Southwell School Alumni Sport Pavilion was a real highlight and we are delighted with the new facility. This complements an outstanding campus here at Southwell and has already proven be a versatile space hosting many sports fixtures and events already.
This year saw Alumni take a more active role on Founders Day. Adding to the traditional fun, colour and excitement that Founders Day celebrations bring to the oval we introduced a Students vs Alumni fun sports afternoon involving both cricket and touch rugby teams. Hamilton turned on a stunning afternoon with an awesome turn out of Alumni with a wide range of year groups and eras represented, including current
Black Caps star Tim Seifert (2005-08 Lincoln). The games were played in great spirit and there was some fantastic talent
on display. It was a fun afternoon enjoyed by all and we look forward to next years event!
The SS Alumni Hall of Fame and Alumni of Honour Awards are still being finalised and although we had planned
on launching this project this year we are expecting this
to happen in the first half of next year. We believe it is important to recognise exceptional achievements by Southwell Alumni and to inspire the next generation as to what is possible. Watch this space!
The Alumni committee is in great shape after a busy year, but we are always looking to expand this group and have a goal of solid representation from a wide range of Alumni demographics. We will continue to deliver some great Alumni events and keep the Southwell School Alumni connected and informed.
We are excited to welcome the Class of 2023 and their parents and caregivers to the Southwell School Alumni family at the conclusion of the school year. We wish them all the best for Secondary School and encourage them all to stay connected with Southwell School. On behalf on the Southwell School Alumni team, I wish you and your families a safe and happy festive season.
