ALUMNI VISITORS TO SOUTHWELL
GIVING BACK
Early in Term 4, Alumni hosted 75 Year 13 students from the Class of 2018 for an afternoon with the current Year 8 Students. After a brief question and answer session where our Leavers were able to ask
our Year 13 Alumni about their travels and learning through secondary school, everyone converged on the fields for robust games of Basketball, Touch Rugby (and later full tackle Rugby). Such a great afternoon. We would like to wish our Class of 2018 all the best for this exciting next phase in life!
Jessica Hayward (2018-22 Canterbury) and her family have donated a beautiful new cup to be presented
at Prizegiving. This new award is called the Jessica Hayward Trophy and is for the most valuable all-round girls rugby player.
The Tam Family visited Southwell to donate an Inline Hockey Trophy for Prize Giving. Frazer (2008-16 Salisbury), Elliot (2010-18 Salisbury) and Charlotte (2012-20 Salisbury) were all foundation players in the
first Southwell School Inline Hockey teams and have each gone on to represent New Zealand, traveling all over the world competing in Inline Hockey tournaments in Spain, Australia, California and Hawaii. The Tam Trophy will be awarded at Prize Giving for a player(s) who strives for excellence when playing Inline Hockey and who has contributed time, effort and leadership. We appreciate your support of our Inline Hockey students, thank you.
Gemma Spice (2019 - 20, York) and her parents, Debbie and Allan visited Southwell and presented Mr Speedy with two new Trophies for Girls Cricket that will be presented by Gemma at this year’s Prizegiving.
Mia Ji (2021-22 Canterbury) and current Year 3 student Ella Russell (Durham) formed a beautiful friendship via the buddy system. As part of Mia’s Year 9 Art Project at Waikato Dio she drew this outstanding portrait of Ella and returned to Southwell to present it to Ella. Great friendships are made here at Southwell.
