Cultural Points
There are three ways to earn a cultural point towards the Achievement Badge or Achievement Tie.
Cultural Effort
For Cultural Effort, effort scores are combined across Term 1 & 2 (Semester 1) and then again in Term 3 & 4 (Semester 2). Students who have 80% of their effort scores as 1s, in these semesters, will have a cultural point allocated. This is from the following 3 subjects
Drama Music Art/Pottery
The below example shows a student report from Term 1 and a report from Term 2 with six out of six 1s. Great effort! They have earned one cultural point.

NB-Year 4 students will have only Music and Drama, so at least 3 out of 4 grades as 1s.
Cultural Achievement
A cultural point will be allocated to students who are a member of a Performing Arts group and meet the following criteria-
Commitment
The groups are-
Boys’ Choir Ensemble
Questioning
Girls’ Choir Orchestra Rock Band Jazz Band
Listening
Wind Band J-Rock
Contributing
String Orchestra Theatre Sports
Managing self
Opera
A cultural point will be allocated to the winners of the School Speech Competition.
External Cultural Points
A cultural point can be awarded to a student who sits an external examination for Southwell Speech & Drama or Southwell Itinerant Music and achieves the highest recognition for that examination e.g Honours Plus for Speech, Distinction for Music.
A cultural point can be awarded for completing the levels of the Voice for Life Award through the Chapel Choir.
NB- A maximum of two points can be awarded in a year for external examinations, one from Speech & Drama and one from Music.
