Achievement Tie-Rationale for Change
During the course of 2018 a working group was tasked with reviewing the area of Rewards and Recognition across the school. In particular, we were looking at the Achievers’ Tie system. This system has been in place since 1992 and began when the school was Y3-8 boys only, with a school role of 318. Of course things have changed since then and we are wanting to bring our current School philosophy and values into play in regards to recognising and rewarding students for their effort, attitude and achievements. The changes we are going to put in place reflect our focus on effort as being an integral part of life. We have noticed that the students receiving academic effort points has increased because the students have ownership of this process. We want to replicate this across each of the Achievers’ Tie categories.
We also know that as a child progresses through the school, their understanding of intrinsic/extrinsic motivation changes and develops. We have designed our changes around this to help scaffold different levels of motivation, while taking into account the amount of time a student spends at Southwell.
The first part of the change starts with a name change-the Achievement Badge and the Achievement Tie.
