PRIZE GIVING ADDRESSES
exciting times ahead for us all. Embrace the opportunities that come your way, give new things a go! Most of all I urge you to show gratitude. Gratitude is a currency we can make for ourselves and unlike money we can spend it without fear of it running out. The Southwell spirit and community is one of a kind.
Southwell has been a near perfect environment to become great people.
Wherever we go from here, whatever we do after leaving here today, we have all been Southwell students. May we always be friends when we meet again.

HEAD BOY’S ADDRESS
Wow, where has the time gone?! It only seems like yesterday that I arrived at my rst day at Southwell to meet a whole new group of special friends and family.
The school has been more than an education, it has been an experience that has steered us all on our own individual journeys.
There are a wide range of experiences we’ve all had and one thing I know we’ll all re ect on with pride is the people of Southwell. The special connections and the friendships I built over the years will stick with me forever.
Although I have made so many friends in
my own year group it has been very special getting to know kids throughout the whole school, especially the kids in the Junior School, who I now think of like younger brothers and sisters. I’ve had many different experiences with the juniors, such as Camp Weeks, Christmas productions and trying
to decide whether I would play unicorns or policemen at lunch time.
It’s hard to stand up here today and not thank the many amazing people who have played such a key role in this special place.
Teachers and staff, Southwell would not be what it is without you and we cannot thank you enough for what you do for us. You go home every night and prepare work for us the next day, write reports, mark homework and so much more. You always go out of your way for us.
Groundsman, we always knew you were amazing but it wasn’t until we saw you build
Chitty with Aiden Hopkins and John Cox that it reminded us how skilled you are and how dedicated you are to the school.
Cleaners, we don’t always see you do what you do, but we always see what you’ve done. You are amazing people that just get it all done when we’ve all gone home. It makes me feel very good coming into a clean classroom every day and I am very grateful for that.
Chaplain, you’ve been at Southwell my whole way through and I love the passion and spirit you show through the school. We all love how committed you are.
Nurse Thomas, becuse I was so accident prone I’ve got to know you well. There has also been many times I’ve been scrambling to nd gear for a photo or sports event and you are always there to help me out
Mr Speedy, you have helped us all through this year and you’ve been an inspiration. You are an admirable person to look up to
We are all moving on from Southwell to the next stage in our lives and we are extremely well prepared. The biggest challenge we face is nding another Southwell. We are spoilt for secondary school choices in the Waikato, but for primary to intermediate, there is only one stand-out leader and we have being privileged to be a part of it. We know the school will have a lifetime connection in all our hearts. We will always feel extremely proud to be members of the Southwell family.

I think back to some of the highlights that I’ve had this year:
•The amazing people, that continue to make this a great school.
•The Southwell Opera that keeps getting better and better.
•The awesome culture in the school that everyone loves.
•All of the sports events and sporting teams I’ve loved being a part of.
There have also been some crazy moments where it doesn’t always go to plan, such as a good friend of mine catching his hair on re accidentally in the Science Lab. Thanks Mr Velzian for saving the day. Or when my friends come to lunch and tell me about
the little chats that they have had with Mr Mills or Mr Walch. Finally we’ve all had many learning curves and Ellena has taught us that motorbikes can’t y after she tried to jump the orchestra pit in one of the Opera dress rehearsals.
I know that in years to come, I’ll enter these grounds with such fond memories and I’m sure that I’ll probably still remember some
of the habits we have formed: clean shoes, hands behind our back and not running on hard surfaces. But it’s the deeper, more meaningful experiences that have shaped us all as people.
On a personal note, it has been an absolute honour to be chosen as Head Boy. I would most importantly like to acknowledge the outstanding leaders in this year group, the prefects, and in particular Lucy, Kristian and Sophia. Thank you for being great friends and role models for the school.
