 AALLLHHAALLOLOWWSSCCHHAAPPELEL
This has been a notable year for Chapel life and, indeed, the whole of the religious life of the School.
At the initiative of the Anglican Schools’ Office, we were blessed to receive Chaplaincy Intern, Mrs Blythe Cody for the first two terms of the year. Blythe came to us out of a strong faith background herself and was seeking to explore what a Chaplain’s job might be like, both within All Hallows and throughout the wider Southwell family.
This initiative was of great value to the Chapel as Blythe’s ideas for worship and liturgy really made an impact in what was a relatively short period of time. As part of her look, see & discover experience, she was able to go from us with a real confidence to see how St Paul’s Collegiate and Waikato Diocesan School for Girls operate similar ministries. A big thanks goes to Blythe and our good wishes follow her as she further seeks God’s plan for her future ministry within the Anglican Church.
Chapel services have continued to be a blend of traditional ritual and contemporary messages. A big focus this year has been on the Fruit of the Holy Spirit and how each of these impacts everyone’s life. The readings in Chapel on the Fruit were well delivered by students and staff alike. The intention, in future, is to make these Christian virtues visible in the Chapel through craft and design. This will be a student led project.
All Hallows is not a self-maintaining place and needs the hands of caring students in the form of the Chapel Party. This year the dual Sacristans were Rachael Ronowicz and Edward Buckley. Through their determination to keep systems operational, they both provided a form of leadership that was encouraging and sensitive to others. My thanks go to these fine young leaders, and the 18 other very capable members of this service group.
All Hallows has a deep and lengthy tradition of choral worship, and therefore it was a pleasure to take this sound to Sydney in April. Participating in High Mass in Christ Church St Laurence certainly ranks as a pinnacle for both the Boys’ and Girls’ Chapel Choirs. I have remarked often that the choirs’ singing has brought a transformational quality to our collective worship - this being no mean feat for such young singers! My thanks especially go to Mrs Julia McIntyre for her continued openness to giving the Chapel the very best on every occasion.
It has been said that it is the pleasing of God that is at the heart of worship and this remains the key emphasis within All Hallows Chapel, generation to generation.
Every blessing.
