TOUCH
Senior touch was in great shape this year, elding ve teams, peppered with talent and energy. This year the 1st VI Boys' teams and Girls' teams were of equal depth and deception. Covid-19 drew all the best teams from around Hamilton into one competition. This was a tough task for the teams, and results were not as rewarding as the growth each player made. This point was proven with strong xtures against King's and Dilworth at end the year.
A rst-time top girls' team in the Year 5/6 Touch area was a highlight of the year and is a good sign for years to come. The boys were just as exciting, with some amazing talent on show. On average, these teams notched up a better win streak in their weekly games than the seniors, partly due to their committed and knowledgeable coaches.
Structure, skills and speed were the main focus of the Year 2-4 touch players this year. With only one practice a week, the players were sport sponges and soaked up the many variations of the game whilst having lots of fun along the way. Many were new to the sport and, once again, their super star coaches put them through their paces during trainings in preparation for some solid results from their competition games. Invisible offside lines, dummy halves, forward passes, 5 metre rules and other confusing touch rules were learning curves for the Year 1 Touch players. Aptly named Southwell Speedy, the edglings of the Touch family were highly energetic and evasive during games (and practices) resulting in a eld full of fun and friendships. A big thanks once again to the amazing coaches and parents, who displayed persistence and patience with these players to ensure touch at Southwell stays strong.
