WATERPOLO
Waterpolo started off really well in 2021. We entered three teams in the Waikato Intermediate competition with Matua coaching all of us together. We had players from Years 5-8 in the Makos (Division 1), the Fins (Division 2) and the Stingrays (Division 3). We all trained together so the more experienced players could help teach the new players as well.
The Makos finished third in Division 1 and the Fins and Stingrays did really well, with most players in these teams new to the sport in Term 1.
Some Southwell players also played in the Waikato Campbell Cup club competition in Terms 2 and 3 when there was no school
waterpolo. We had hoped to go to some events outside of Waikato later in the year but unfortunately Covid-19 meant we couldn’t do this or finish the season in Term 4.
As Captain of Waterpolo I have been really proud of all the players and of Matua’s very enthusiastic coaching! I am grateful for the opportunity to discover my passion for waterpolo through Southwell and my great coaches and teammates.
