This year we bid farewell to the man who has been the heart and soul of Durham for over 20 years, Mr Mark Webb. We asked Durham staff members, and a number of senior students, what words came to mind when they thought of Mr Webb. We then took those words and crafted an acrostic poem to pay tribute to a man we all greatly respected and admired. We would like to share that poem, as a tribute to Mr Webb.
Our heart and soul,
Unique, authentic and kind, Red is in his blood.
Dignified in all he does, Understanding of all. Respected; a true gentleman. Honest, loyal and competitive. A generous soul.
Man of motivational words.
Caring and compassionate,
Humble, with a huge heart.
A man of integrity,
Mr Webb, you exemplify The Power of One. Patient, thoughtful, calm and collected, Intelligent, witty and wise.
Our leader and guide,
No one will replace our beloved Mr Webb.
We would like to thank Gracie Sarich and Orlando Hardie, who have been wonderful Heads of House in 2021. It was great to see you leading the house by example. We enjoyed seeing a number of other Year 7 and 8 students stepping up to help our students leaders for things such as House Singing and the line dancing for Founder’s Day.
We wish all those Durham students who are leaving Southwell at the end of the year. All the very best for the future, and we look forward to seeing all our lovely Durhamites who are returning next year.
When asked “Why does Durham wear red?” We say, “Because we have heart!
Arohanui.
