                    FOUNDER’S DAY : 110 YEARS OLD
Founder's Day looked a little different in 2021.
Most of our students were at home as a result of restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sadly there was no party on the Oval.
No line-dancing.
No cake.
No bands playing.
No prayer by Chaplain from the Chapel tower.
But as this poem by Hayley Penn shows, Founder's Day was not forgotten...
It’s Founders Day at Southwell, And it’s time to celebrate,
We remember the memories we all have,
Each one is truly great.
With dancing to music as a house, And special moves as a group, Southwell celebrates 110 years together,
We are all in one big troupe.
The Southwell troupe is special,
It seems to be easy to see,
You just need to look at what we do,
And you’ll be happy as can be.
With operas, sports and a library, To labs and fields and a pool, With auditoriums, art rooms and pottery,
Southwell is so super cool!
Lockdown may have crept up quick,
And given us a big shock,
We’ve been doing our work behind screens,
And watching TV - one o’clock!
But sadly though, we can’t be there,
On Southwell’s special date, Because of Covid we sit alone, The celebration will have to wait.
No dancing to music as a house, No special moves as a group,
No laughing as we have some fun, But we’re all still one big troupe.
We can get through this Southwell, We’ll see you again, once more. When this lockdown is finally over, We’ll come knocking on your door.
So Happy Birthday Southwell - We’ll get back to our school soon, With Chaplain rapping, dressed as an angel,
And lots and lots of balloons!
