Deputy Head Girl - Lola Williams
Good morning to all my Southwell Whanau. As of you may already know, I'm Lola Williams - although some of you may know me as Rocco's sister! I’ve had the privilege of being this year's Deputy Head Girl alongside Deputy Head Boy Troy Poole, Head Boy Srikar Jandhyala and, of course, Head Girl Klaudia Horsfall.
My journey here at Southwell is drawing to an end. I really wish I could turn back time to be in your shoes again! My experiences here have been magical and I never thought I would say that about going to school! When I first walked in I felt like I was in a Harry Potter movie.
I will miss the times wandering through the Junior School and seeing you all having so much fun - playing Cheat, kicking a ball around, endless noise, lots of laughter and most of all looking after each other. I especially enjoyed playing Man Hunt as a Year 6 as it involved our whole syndicate. Upon reflection, I really appreciated forming all the wonderful relationships within our Southwell community, many of which I’m sure will last a lifetime.
Throughout my time here at Southwell I have learnt many things - how to tie a tie, understanding how to keep a track of ALL of my uniform, remembering to return my library books on time, to list a few! One thing I can say that really helped me out was doing my best to live the Southwell values of Respect, Integrity, Care, Excellence, Creativity and Resilience. In the beginning these seem hard things to remember but the Southwell way becomes second nature, which in turn becomes a part of you.
All of the teachers, parents and helpers at Southwell have all played a part in shaping the person I am and the way I approach all aspects
of my life. I thank you all for your time, care and attention to helping me.
A special thanks to Mr Mills - I felt really well supported throughout my whole time here. Especially this year, you were always checking in to make sure I was coping well with all aspects in my role as Deputy Head Girl.
And of course, Mr Speedy - thanks for everything you’ve done for me, I have learned so many leadership skills under your guidance which will stick with me forever. You always make sure I'm being my best self and most of all showed me how to make learning fun!
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas, safe and happy holidays and look forward to coming back to visit you in future years.
My advice to you all, just try to be the best version of yourself that you can.
Per Aspera Ad Astrum.

Deputy Head Boy - Troy Poole
Looking back to when I first started Southwell, never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that I would be standing in front of you giving this speech. I have been honoured with the position of Deputy Head Boy. My time at Southwell has been truly life changing. This school has taught me so much in all areas.
I have made so many memories here. From playing Man Hunt with my friends at lunch, doing the Tongariro Crossing on Year 8 Camp and having a great time during the Year 8 Fun Day.
A memory I will never forget is going on fixtures all over the North Island for the 1st XV Rugby team. I have made so many friends on them. So a big thank you to Mr T and all the sports coaches who helped and supported me.
This year my class has been helping mentor 4NP. It has been a great experience and it has been really cool getting to know my buddy Max and his friends. One of the things I love about Southwell is you can make friends with anybody no matter the age or class.
I would like to thank all the amazing teachers that have helped me. I have too many people to thank so these are just some of the ones who have really made a difference - Mrs Martin, Mrs McLean, and Mrs Nicholson. Also a special thank you to Mr Speedy, Mr Walch, Srikar, Klaudia and Lola for helping me in my journey as Deputy Head Boy. And of course Mum and Dad for your everlasting support and love in everything I do.
And one piece of advice I would like to give you is take every opportunity that comes your way because once you finish your time at Southwell you don't want to be left with any regrets.
One of my favourite quotes is:
“Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're probably right."
And one thing I have learned at Southwell
is to always think I can.

Be brave, try new things. I tried cricket for the first time this term and I love it. Don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone.
