                PRIZE GIVING
        Head Boy - Srikar Jandhyala
I’ve had the privilege of being the Head Boy for 2022. From when I first started at Southwell four years ago, my journey through this great school has been quite the wild ride. From sport, to performing in the Opera, to academics, I’ve grown in all aspects of life, thoroughly enjoying every single moment. But like all good things, my time here at Southwell is coming to an end. So as I leave this wonderful place behind, I have so much to say. And there are not enough words for it.
Looking back, I have so many good memories. Running around with my friends and playing football at lunchtime, walking through the bush in pouring rain at camp and the Year 8 Social are only a fraction of them, but one thing that I’ll vividly remember from my time here, and that I’ll always cherish for life, is the Opera.
Performing on stage is something I will always love and the Southwell Opera was just one of those amazing experiences that I’ll never forget. Mrs Walker’s honest and inspirational advice helped me so much and all of the other staff and parents who helped make the show possible
deserve a huge thank you from me as well. The opportunities at Southwell are endless and if there’s one piece of advice I’d give to the Year 5 to 7s - take every opportunity you get. You may or may not enjoy it, but you won’t find out unless you try.
Southwell has taught me so many values that I try my best to follow, but one value that I hold dear to my heart is respect. Respecting the people around you, respecting the place you’re in, respecting the people you love and finally, respecting yourself. This value is so important to me because it’s helped me grow as a person both in confidence and in character, making me a much better individual. It’s benefitted me a lot throughout my time at Southwell and I’ll carry it with me for life.
There’s a lot of people I’d like to thank for making my time at Southwell as good as it was.
• I’d
like to thank
my aunt as
well, you’ve
been a great caretaker and teacher to me and I’m so grateful for all of your help.
• Also a huge thanks to Klaudia, Troy and Lola, for being great friends and fellow Head Prefects, and of course, all the Year 8s. All of you have been wonderful friends and classmates to me and without you, I wouldn’t be standing here today. I’ve made so many great friends at this school and they’re the main reason I’ve enjoyed my time at Southwell so much. I wish you the best for your future and look forward to seeing some of you at high school.
As I leave this very special place behind, I’ll have so many good memories and lessons that I’ll take away with me and when I go home and take off my uniform for the last time, I’ll breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that I’ve attended a school that’s set me up for life. So for one final time, thank you, goodbye and all the best for the future.

First of all, I’d like to thank Mr Speedy, for being a great Headmaster and role model throughout the year.
I’d also like to thank all my homeroom teachers - Mrs Martin, Mrs McLean, Mr Bryan and Mrs McFarlane and all of the other staff who have been amazing teachers and mentors to me.
To Mum, Dad and all of my family sitting here today, thank you for showing so much love and appreciation to me and supporting me in whatever I do. To my brother, you’ve always been an inspiration to me and I’ll always look up to you (even though I’m almost as tall as you!)

Head Girl - Klaudia Horsfall
In my four years at Southwell I have had some of the best experiences and opportunities that I could have ever imagined; from first walking into the Boarding House to standing here today as Head Girl. And as this chapter in my life comes to an end I have so many things to be thankful for. I have had the amazing privilege of being 2022’s Head Girl. I have learnt so much from having this role and, of course, it has instilled so many values in me I will keep forever.
Some of my many highlights at Southwell have been Kapa Haka, Choir, Drama, Touch Rugby, Netball, fixtures, camps, the Year 8 Social, and, of course, Opera - these things have made my days here some of the best.
I have a lot of people to thank for many different things over my years at Southwell.
• First and foremost Mr Speedy - your
guidance and advice has helped me to be
the best student I can be.
• My family - without your continuous love
and support I would not have had the
unbelievable four years I have had here.
• I would also like to thank all my teachers - Miss Rudduck, Mrs van Heuven, Mrs
McLean and Mrs Martin.
• Also a huge thanks to Srikar, Lola, and
Troy - you guys have never failed to make
me laugh. Thanks for all our fun memories. • When I first arrived at Southwell in 2019, I was hesitant to say the least. In a room full of strangers at the time I would soon learn that this would be my new home away from home. To all the boarding girls, thank you all so much for everything. I think of you guys more as sisters than friends because we really are one big family. Thank you to all the boarding staff and tutors - if it weren’t for all your help over the years I don’t know where I’d be. Thank you for making the Boarding
House such a fun, accepting and loving
environment.
• To all the Year 8s, I wish you all the best
for high school and the rest of your lives. I have no doubt you will turn into fine young ladies and gentlemen. And to the rest of you. You might not realize until it’s your day to leave how great a school Southwell is, so make the most of every opportunity and experience because I guarantee there will be a time in the future when you will wish you would have just one more day at Southwell.
Now that this speech, and my time at Southwell, is coming to an end I really don’t know how to say goodbye. So for the final time thank you to everyone who has made my time here the time it has been and helped me strive to be the best I can be. It truly has been the best four years of my life, and I will never forget all the incredible memories.
