Basketball has had a great year in 2022. The popularity of the game continues to grow globally and Southwell is no exception. The game has never been easier to access and it is wonderful to see students coming to the gym ready to dish it up like Chef Curry, drill the game- winner and dominate like Kobe or even take over the paint like our very own Stephen Adams. Students not only focus on this highlight-reel style of play but a focus on fundamentals and team play has seen some incredible improvements from all levels of players.
We were also fortunate enough to host a Basketball Fixture against King's. This was a rare occasion as Basketball fixtures are not commonplace and our two senior
teams made the most of this opportunity. The games were played on our outside court and the wind did its best to have its say with the occasional pass and shot being blown well beyond their intended targets. Despite this, both King's and Southwell teams played good brands of basketball, with excellent sportsmanship being displayed throughout. The final results were Southwell Blazers winning 48 - 20 and the 1911s narrowly missing a buzzer-beater to end with a 24 - 23 loss.
We look forward to more fixtures and more Southwell Basketball in 2023.
