 CELEBRATING GIRLS CRICKET
EMMA BAKER (2007-14 WINCHESTER)
1ST XI GIRLS CRICKET PRIZE 2013 & 14 Emma got into Cricket at Southwell thanks to the usual suspects...Mr T, Mr Libby, Mr Botha, Mr Webb & Mr McIntyre who all really helped her to love the game even though there were only a few girls playing.
Similarly, following on to St Peters School Cambridge there was no girls cricket team. Emma spent years 9 & 10 playing boys cricket in the colts league, before playing for a combined Hamilton girls team. Emma’s advice to her younger self would be “ don’t be discouraged by playing with and against boys (especially in high school). It shows so much more about your character than about theirs when you go out and absolutely #girlboss them!”
Emma’s family is her biggest inspiration. “They play a big part in my drive and passion to keep getting better, both as a person outside of cricket and as a player within the game. I really appreciate the sacrifices my family made for me to pursue my dream, so they are a big motivator
during some of the tough moments I’ve experienced so far in my career.”
Emma’s cricketing goal for this year is to remain a consistent player in the starting 11 for the Northern Brave Women. “Any kids dream is to represent their country in their chosen sport, so that is, and has always been, my biggest goal to date when it comes to cricket.”
Best cricketing moment? “It would have to be debuting for the Northern Brave Women and getting my first domestic wicket in that same game. I was 17 at the time, and still remember the day like it was just yesterday!”
