GEMMA SPICE (2019-20 YORK)
1ST XI CRICKET PRIZE 2020
Miss Ross ignited a passion for Cricket in Gemma whilst at Southwell. Now at Waikato Diocesan School for Girls in Year 11, Gemma has played for the Dio first XI since year 9, competing at nationals since year 10 and now plays for The Northern Districts Academy. Cricket inspired Gemma to play a non-traditional female sport where the rules and equipment are exactly the same for both male and female teams. Now that Cricket has
introduced pay parity there is potential to make it a career option for female players.
This year Gemma aims to be selected for Northern District under 17s and start fixtures and also to make the Brave Cricket Team.
To date, Gemma considers representing Waikato Dio
at Secondary schools national cricket (Gillette cup) and being selected for Northern Districts cricket academy as her top Cricketing achievements. Not to mention playing for The Southwell Alumni Team in a friendly game on Founders Day...
Editors Note
Not only has Gemma been achieving great success in her Cricket but as part of her Strength and Conditioning training it was suggested she try weightlifting... she took up the challenge and recently gained a Silver medal
in the NZ secondary school’s Weightlifting Champs. Awesome work Gemma!
