LANGUAGES & CULTURE
Who are we at Southwell? Multi-cultural and we love it!
So in International Languages Week (12-16 August) students and tutors read The Lord’s Prayer in a wonderful array of the languages spoken in our School.
Anaru Deane read in Māori, Milan Nordstrom in Spanish, Emily Wang in Mandarin and our South African tutor Nondumiso Ngcobo read in Zulu. Sebastian Vainui represented the Pacific Islands when he read in Cook Island Māori, Nika Asadi read in Persian, Methaya Subasinghe in Singhala and Tejveer Randhawa in Punjabi. Tri Phan read in Vietnamese, a first for our Chapel. Vivian Liu read in Mandarin, Richard Ruetsch in German, Cherry Goel in Hindi and Shané Smit (tutor) braved the Assembly to complete the week with her reading in Afrikaans.
A warm thank you to all of you for your skill, your poise and your bravery at speaking in front of a large audience.
In Term 1, the School celebrated Chinese New Year with noise and colour in the Square and Junior School.
Our students loved their many Chinese activities again during Languages Week. A keen group enjoyed watching Asterix and Cleopatra in French.
