KIDS’ LIT QUIZ
Laughter can often be heard ringing through the Library during a Lit Quiz training session at lunch time on Mondays. Sessions are filled with fun and all readers who have been involved in the Lit Quiz Training Squad this year have discovered new books and made new friends, both real and fictional!
Mrs Huggins was set the challenge of selecting eight amazing readers to represent the school, at the Waikato heat of the Kids’ Lit Quiz. Southwell Team 1 (comprised of Oliver Jones, Aditya Manda, Iona Martynoga and Zoe Weldon) and Southwell Team 2 (Michael Crowther, Kate Digby, Conor McCormack and Yvette Scatchard) performed very well on the night. Southwell Team 1 were crowned as the winners of the Waikato Kids’ Lit Quiz heat and won the right to represent the region at the National Final in Wellington.
After the win, three weeks of intense training followed, including a day-long training session that involved a literary Amazing Race at the Hamilton Gardens. As well prepared as they could possibly be, our four incredible readers journeyed to Wellington and took on the best readers from around the country. After a tense battle, Southwell School Team 1 placed second in New Zealand, which is a truly outstanding achievement. Congratulations to you all and thank you for being such wonderful Southwell ambassadors.
