Walking into the lab on your first day of science is an unforgettable experience. Most people, like ourselves, come with little, or no knowledge of science and it is exploring an entirely new concept.
Science at Southwell is an experience like no other school. You get prepared for any possibilities ahead with one-on-one help if you need it, plenty of experiments (all of which are fun) and endless opportunities to explore the world around you. It helps you to develop skills and overcome fears. The teachers are very kind and do put many hours into helping you succeed.
Year 7 starts off with a burning course. We learnt how to have fun with Bunsen's while at the same time being safe. In Year 8 you look at atoms and electricity. You explore the things that make up the world around you. In Year 8 you also get offered the option of being a science monitor which is a fun experience. You learn even more about equipment and the effort the teachers put in to help you succeed.
At Southwell we have two very kind teachers, Mr Velzian and Mrs Voss, who both put many hours into their job and you will get great results out of it if you try.
Science at Southwell is so much more than sitting at a desk with a piece of paper in front of you, writing down what the teacher says. It is an opportunity to open your mind to the world around you and to get out there and have fun!
