ART AND POTTERY
All God’s Creatures got a place in the choir Some sing low and some sing higher. All God’s Creatures got a place in the Pottery Room.
Animals were the inspiration for the students in the Art Room this year. Each student chose their own individual animal to inspire their art project.
The Year 6s created stunning concertinas where they had a taste for different media and art processes.
Year 7s composed large paintings with detailed layering and excellent drawings.
The Year 8s got in touch with their inner spirit animal, creating a circular artwork that described their connection and likeness with their chosen animal.
All works were displayed proudly in the school gallery.

This year the Pottery Room came alive with creatures. Creatures of all shapes, sizes and country of origin. Creatures made with slab, with pinch, with coil.
Year 6 potters made kiwi, fantails and kittens. For many this was their first introduction to pottery and they were excited to see colours develop under the influence of heat and glass.
Year 7 potters had a poultry focus and we explored the many shapes that could convince the viewer that they were looking at a chicken. We had wide chickens, fat hens and tall conical roosters. There were plenty of creative ideas, including how extreme a wattle or a comb could be and still be classified as a chicken!
Year 8 potters called on all their knowledge of slab, pinch and coil to hand build dogs, chameleons and dairy cows this year. We experimented with new clays that could cope with the stretch and fragile nature of our work. I’m sure this year the Year 8s should have some lovely surprises as a keepsake of their time at Southwell in the Pottery room
